Nel had taken up running as a fitness exercise regime to stay fit and healthy. His attitude to eat healthy stay healthy is so important, that it had been a great motivation for himself as well friends who had seen his transformation.
What do you enjoy about running? I had picked up running 5 years ago after volunteering for many races. I had participated in many races such as Sundown Marathon, Army Half Marathon, 2XU Compression Run, Standard Chartered Marathon and many more.
I like running because of few reasons. It helps me to destress especially after a long tough day. Sweating it out makes me feel a lot calmer. Running clears my mind and gives me new ideas, perhaps due to work of endorphins.
What is your motivation? I believe that run often and run long but never outrun your joy of running. Running is a test of our determination where there are many obstacles that we have to overcome. We might think that we cannot complete a run but with persistence, all challenges and obstacles can be overcome. I am glad to have found that inner strength.
How often do you run? 5 times a week.
What training phase are you in right now? My training phrase various from endurance, speed and interval.
When is your next race? Garang Warrior Ultra which is an ultramarathon, running in Singapore. I plan to run 50km-60km in 12 hours.
How are you getting prepared for this race? Keeping healthy by running shorter distance with slow consistence pace. On diet wise, I am eating healthier food by cutting down on the fried food as well as sugar stuff. A balance-diet will help to keep the body in shape.
Eating vs Exercise: How has your diet changed to suit your fitness exercises? My food intake is 70% vs my exercise is 30%. I do not usually consumed more than 1500 calories a day for my daily meals. Once a week, I do have cheat meals just to satisfy the craving.
I have taken Huma gel which had improved my training timing as well as my race timing. It is always important to listen to your body. I would say that Huma gel is different from others because it is easy to swallow due to its low viscosity. The gel is a good source of healthy carbs where chia seeds help to augment carbohydrate absorption, giving you long-lasting energy without a sugar spike. For Protein, it contains all 9 essential Amino Acids needed.
